I RAISED PRESS-BASED QUESTIONS AS ELDERSON SEEKS TOP ECB POST

During today’s hearing of Frank Elderson, in view of his appointment as Vice-Chair of the Supervisory Board of the European Central Bank, I raised serious concerns about the politicisation of the ECB’s mandate.

Recent press reports — including Politico — have portrayed Mr Elderson as closely aligned with a green lobbying agenda and have raised questions about internal pressure, intolerance of dissent, and mandate creep within the ECB.

Central bank independence requires discipline, pluralism, and respect for dissent — especially at the highest level.
